Hear ye! Hear ye! I would like to officially announce that my sister, Catie, and I are going to teach swim lessons this summer at my pool here in Willowbrook. I was putting together a separate blog for it, but it was getting way to0 complicated and I thought, why not just post it on the super fun happy blog?

Here's the deal. Catie will be the "Head Madame Swim Instructor" and I'll be there to help as just plain old "Madame Swim Instructor".
We know what we're doing and we love to teach children and adults how to swim, or how to improve existing swimming skills. We both have Water Safety Instruction certification from the Red Cross and we have both been certified lifeguards. (We've both let the certification go without renewing, however I'm confident that we could still save you if you needed help in the water :) Catie has been teaching swim lessons forever. Private lessons in Merced, California where we grew up, and here in Utah Valley she's taught several summers at the Orem Rec Center. I've pretty much been teaching forever too. I've taught private lessons here in Utah Valley, managed a whole swim program in Nevada, and more private lessons back in California.
There is something for everyone. We are prepared to teach the American Red Cross swim lesson curriculum for Levels 1-6 in a group or private setting at the Willowbrook Pool. Catie is also willing to travel to your pool for private or semi private swim lessons. We would also love to teach a "Mom & Me" class for ages 6 months - 3 years old.
Here is some more of the deal. A "group session" is a two week period wherein we teach a half hour lesson Monday - Thursday to 4-8 students. This allows for weekend family travel as well as make up days on Friday as needed.
"1 Week Sessions" are "Mom & Me" class, private, or semi private lessons, and include daily instruction Monday - Thursday.
At the end of the session and upon demonstration of skills, swim students will be officially certified for the relative American Red Cross swim level.
We're pretty cheap. We're pretty comparable to Orem City's prices and probably the Provo city program (I just can't get in contact with anyone there or find it online to confirm their prices!) and you know how it is trying to get the session and time you want with the city, and they sell out so quickly! You won't have to camp out to get a spot with us and you'll get the same instruction, delivered with a bigger smile and your kids will love us if they don't already :)
1 Week "Mom & Me" Session $19
2 Week Group Session $39
1 Week Semi Private Session $44
1 Week Private Session $59
We've invented all kinds of phrases like "Sibling Discount" and "Bulk Session Discount" and "Bulk Session Sibling Discount" and then there's always the "Refer a Friend" discount, so if any of those sound like they would apply to you, let me know. I'll hook you up.
We just found out this thing that is kind of a downer... John Rotolo, the manager of Willowbrook graciously gave us permission to do whatever we want in the pool... as long as we are done by 9:00 AM. The pool opens at 5:00 AM, but I would imagine that most of you or your children are asleep at that time. We're willing to start as early as 7:00 AM and it does get pretty hot in the summer so the pool will be nice, you can get it out of the way first thing without monopolizing your whole day, the pool is heated, and you won't have to worry as much about you or your kids getting sunburned - but that means the only times available for group sessions are 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, and 8:30 AM.
Please let me know if this is the only thing that is keeping you from taking swim lessons. We can work something out. Especially if you are a Willowbrook resident.
Of course now you want to know how to sign up. Just call me 801.602.3147 or email me bootstothemoon@gmail.com
Swim Lessons start June 1st!
Some more words about Private Lessons. Private lessons are great for people who want to really refine their strokes and get personal coaching. Private lessons are also really great for people who prefer one on one instruction. The group setting can be intimidating or overwhelming, but one on one you can accomplish a lot.
A semi private lesson is a bit less expensive than a private lesson and means there are 2 people in the class. So, call a friend and sign up together!
Also, Catie will come to you for private or semi private lessons! She has a list of reasonable travel fees for as far south as Springville and as far north as Draper. Just let me know if you're interested.

And after you teach everyone, let's start an annual Willowbrook triathlon!
ooooh, good idea Heidi!
Now that we're really moving :( I am trying to squash in so much. Since your classes start June 1st, are you planning to do a "mommy & me" for one of those 30 minute blocks (7 7:30 8 or 8:30)??
We'd love to do a one week session of that! Plus, I want to see your lifeguard skills in action :)
Camille,
I'm really interested in the Mommy and Me classes but I'm not sure I can get there that early and I'd need to find someone to help...I'll be in touch though...HOW EXCITING!
Heidi, I'm totally in to the Willowbrook triathlon idea. Are you thinking an all age event because if yes, I think you should know that the culminating event of my undergraduate internship at BYU was to create the first ever kids' triathlon for the city of Sparks, NV. It was a smashing success and really just a lot of FUN!
Jill, let's definitely figure out a time to do the mommy and me class. June 8-11th is available for any time slot at the moment. That would be my favorite class of the whole summer and there's not really a limit to how many "moms and mes" can join. Can you imagine all the moms in our neighborhood in the water and more? FUN!
Hannah, I totally understand about the timing issue and getting help. You are the most awesome mother of twins and a baby I know. If we can figure out how to make it work it will be really FUN!
PS The overall theme of this comment is FUN.
Oh, also Jill - I can't wait to save you or Cedric from drowning so you can see my lifeguarding skills. That will be fun too :) But I just realized that if you want to SEE the skills, maybe you shouldn't be the one to drowned. Maybe Heidi will come swim at the same time you're around and I can save her :)
*Note that a good life guard does everything possible not to let pool patrons drowned. I would save you while you were still a distressed swimmer :)
We'd be interested, but probably only in the 8:30 time slot. While we're up before then, getting out of the house before then is a whole other story. Would Peter qualify to be big enough to do a group session? He's 3 1/2 and can swim by himself in shallow water (he doesn't have enough skills to overcome the pull of the weight of the deep end).
What time and when do you think your private lessons would be? We have tried desperately to get David to swim so he can advance in scouting. I might be interested in a week of private lessons for him. :) I just have to get him to swim 100 yds.
mae and i would love to take some classes! she is still two, so we probably need to sign up for the mom and me class. Let me know what time and we'll be there.

Oh Camille...I would love Massey to take swimming lessons, Jordan were actually talking about it the other day. I sucks that we're so far away, hopefully when you guys come in July, you can give him a few lesson...we'll totally pay!
Hi I found you on Callie's blog. I would love to do a semi private lesson and a private lesson. I have 2 sons that could so it together and a daughter for private? Legacy center is where I would prefer and the sooner the better for us! I would love to start June 1st. Let me know!!
801-653-2534 Thanks Mel
wish i lived in the utah valley--abigail and I would love to do a mom and me week. is mom and me for babies or only toddlers? either way, best of wishes and luck! have fun swimming!! we're coming to utah in July--maybe we can see you.
Camille, I am so impressed with your skills. Your school and your swim lessons sound so great. Your prices are better than what we paid for Lili and Ruben's swim lessons for this summer. If only we lived closer . . .
