The Burns Supper - Stone Hill - January 31, 2009

My Brad Dad (my father-in-law whose name is Brad) served his mission in Scotland where he developed an appreciation for Robert Burns, Scotland's National Poet. Brad and Olivia made it a tradition in their family to celebrate the life and poetry of Robert Burns with an annual Burns Supper. There is a set program for the evening that they follow every year. It's always been fun to attend. I've been to one at Grandma Dahl's in Starr Valley and Hannah and Jeff hosted one a couple years ago in American Fork.

It was really fun this year to go to Brad and Olivia's house. Cousin Jessica was there and she actually played the bagpipes to pipe in the haggis. It was also REALLY fun to watch Nigel parade around in the kilt that Jessica made for him. I thought about doing it before we left, but that week was just too busy and all of my down time in the short weekend we were there I wanted to spend finishing up Gone with the Wind. It probably turned out better this way for Nigel because Jessica's pleats are perfect! Next year I just want to add a sporran.

Cole and Suzie and Carlie and Sarah and Scout came with us for the shortest trip we've ever had to Stone Hill. This is one of my favorite pictures from the trip.I think the whole dinner party totaled more than twenty. There were Dahl aunts, uncles, grandma and cousins and friends and neighbors and family. It was a fun table to surround. Olivia prepared a great feast for us all and Brad hosted a very entertaining and enlightening evening.

Robert Burns is known for being a womanizer, but when you study his poems it's obvious that he recognized greater truth than his and our own weaknesses. I'll have to ask Brad for the poem he quoted when you could tell that Burns believed in an eternal family. It was beautiful.

We all had a good time. Nigel looked really cute and got to play with his cousins. Whenever I told him to give Massey a hug he would put his hand on Massey somewhere and bow his head like this.

Scouter Powder.
And some quick videos.
