Merry Christmas!

This Christmas was extremely memorable. It was Brad and Olivia's first Christmas at Stone Hill and every one of their children (they say they have 12 children, but got that many the smart way: raised 6 of their own and let somebody else raise the other 6 until they married in to the Anderson family) and grandchildren were there!

It was really a lot of fun with Nigel this year because he was so involved with everything. Brad and Olivia decorated a small Christmas tree in each of their children's bedrooms so we could each have our own little Christmas with our family before we all came upstairs to exchange gifts with all the siblings, cousins and Mom and Dad Anderson.

Nigel was lucky enough to open his first nativity scene from his Lola (Sharon Canlas) that we will use every year with him and any other siblings that pop in to our little family. She also gave him some books that we hope will help him be reverent during the sacrament. Thanks Lola!

He was also lucky enough to open a spider man toothbrush from Santa Claus and a a truck and a McDonald's happy meal toy from his parents. If only Christmas could be this easy every year. What's better than gifts you can drive through for... and you get a snack too? (Note that I ate the happy meal, not Nigel. He's not allowed to have gross "food" like that.)

Later that morning he was also lucky enough to have an original story read to him by Grandpa Anderson. Nigel was a character in the story and at one point he had turned into a lamb. Grandma and Grandpa gave him a little stuffed lamb to help him remember. I hope he always remembers that story because the little lamb in the story just kept sleeping and sleeping. (Our little Nigel still doesn't sleep straight through the night.)

Even later he was lucky enough to receive a "Nigel-sized" broom and dust pan from his best dude cousin, Massey and some super cute hand-made monster finger puppets from Aunt Britta. Without even talking to each other about it, Ruth and I had wanted to give our sons the same thing for Christmas: a toothbrush and a broom :) Jordan and Ruth also gave the whole family a gift that you just can't top: Brad and Olivia's 14th grandchild.

They will have their baby (which we know will be a girl because of the yet-to-be-proven-wrong-in-our-family gold ring test) probably in August of 2009 only a few short months after Hannah and Jeff's baby is born in March. I have to admit that I felt like joining the pregnant club again when they made their announcement. Callie, Christine, Hannah, and Ruth are all expecting again and Sarah and I are the only ones from the 2007 pregnant club who aren't expecting. I guess only time will tell because we aren't saying anything!

The entire Christmas day was so wonderful. It was perfect to have the little Christmas with just me and Micah and Nigel - Micah gave me one of the best gifts ever, by the way: shaving every single day in 2009! Woo hoo! He's getting a lot more kisses this year! - and then have all that time with the whole family. We woke up to a white Christmas. We got to have wonderful food all sitting together at the same table. We got to watch some movies that were gifts and really just enjoy the whole day.

I can't figure out what to write that helps explain how joyful it was. The house turned out to be perfectly accomodating for all those people and the feeling of being together was priceless. I'll always remember that the prayers offered that day were for gratitude for our extremely fortunate circumstances and for the revered traditions centered in celebrating the birth of the Light and Life of the world, Jesus Christ.

Again for Sue and Cate...

Merry Christmas from Nigel in Sparks, NV.
Nigel is learning how to pray. Sometimes he's even quiet until the "amen".
When you take a picture of Nigel now he says, "CHEESE!"

A little bit of this and a little bit of that for Cate and Sue and all Nigel fans...

Man I love these kids. So do they, isn't it obvious?

Hooray for Thanksmas gifts!
I love these boys and I love their sweaters, truly. Meaning I want them to wear them every day and Micah practically does.
Thanks for the Iron Man tatoos Nannie!
Nigel always gives Micah really useful critiques of his work and he's so cute doing it.
Nigel and Cate. Catie saves me a lot of afternoons. We have this family rule where I'm not allowed to stay home all day without going out, especially two days in a row, but with one car it can happen pretty easily without prior planning, but Catie saves the day with her afternoon visits.

Dear Catie, Sue and all Nigel fans,

We're having a lot of fun in Reno visiting Micah's family. Nigel is in love with his cousin, Massey. They play very well together and it's especially cute to watch them hug each other.

The first day we were here we went to Ruth's piano recital for her 11 piano students. It was awesome! This is Nigel on the way to the recital. This is Nigel with Ruth's sister Roquelita at the recital. I think one of the cutest things in the world was watching Roquel watch Nigel and Massey hugging hello. It was way cuter than the two babes, and that's pretty cute.

Jordan and Ruth took Micah and I to see the City of San Diego Ballet perform The Nutcracker at the Hotel that used to be the Hilton and I can't remember what it's called now... It was really really great and Micah and I are excited to take our children to see The Nutcracker probably when they're 3 or 4 and will LOVE it, especially Dahlia and Pistol. (Are we really naming one of our daughters Pistol Micah?)

Sorry there aren't more pictures. My camera battery died, but it's all charged now and Nigel slept all through the night last night so there's two pieces of good news in one sentence. More to come.

In hopes that I'm right when I nag Micah for never reading "our" blog...

I really think that Micah would enjoy a portrait of himself in this style. If I'm lucky I will win one for him, but if you're lucky you should try to win for yourself here at mer mag

A Tiger Fire Christmas

I've been meaning to do this for 9 days. This playlist is all the Tiger Fire Christmas music that has ever been recorded. Almost. We're hoping to finish one more song this year.

Micah and I started Tiger Fire our second Christmas together. We decided that we wanted to send a Christmas album to our friends and family each year instead of a Christmas card. Last year we didn't get to finish even one song so this year we changed it from an album to an MP3. We're probably even going digital, at least until we can come up with a more efficient and attractive and inexpensive way to mail them out. There's nothing like getting real mail.

So if you lost your CD from years past or we never got your address to send you one or if we met you within the last 2 years and you want the music files, just let me know and I can email you the MP3s.

My all time favorite Tiger Fire Christmas song is Winter Wonderland. My other favorites are Let it Snow, Santy Claws, and Christmas Bells just because it's so ridiculous.

There was a time that I thought all cover Christmas albums were lame (except for the New Kids on the Block one of course). I just found all of these music files tonight and listening back to them is somewhat embarrassing, but more nostalgic than embarrassing so I'm posting them to share.

Merry Christmas!

"Give." - Little Stream

Sew Mama Sew is one of my favorite places online to get tutorials, ideas, and fabric. In their expansion they've turned into more of a crafting blog than sewing and that was kind of a bummer to me until today.

I entered a handful of give-aways on a handful of blogs and this is a picture of one of the things I'm trying to win. You can check it out here at hopefully something rhetorical, especially if you want to leave a comment for your own chance to win!

People are so generous in the crafting world. I spent 30 minutes last night blog hopping and entering give-aways for some pretty cool stuff. Thank you bloggers.

The day before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving, and the day after.

Isaac and Ruby and Ila came to Beal's School (which I have been meaning to write about for a long time now...) on Friday because no one else could come. We had a great time. They did their work, then we made turkey hats and hat popcorn and "fruit snacks". Why do we call candy fruit snacks? What's the difference between a gummy bear and a fruit snack?

Later that day we packed up and went to Gammy and Papa Jerry's to make pies and stay with them for the holiday.
Nigel really enjoyed wearing the apron and don't you love it when kids learn how to "smile" to have their picture taken?

I hope he always likes the piano as much as he did sitting on Gammie's lap.
This is Thanksgiving day with the "smile" for the camera.

6.4 miles. This is Catie and Carlie and I before we ran 6.4 miles, just before we stuffed ourselves silly with a feast that required who knows how many pounds of butter.
And this is us at the end. Catie finished way before me and Sue so they had time to put up a toilet paper finish line and cheer for us. I always wondered how people ran that many miles and the answer is that you just keep going. Catie and Carlie helped me do it and Dad was my mental motivation. I ran the whole way! Running a 10K was one of my new year's resolutions and it felt great to cross it off the list.
Micah and Nigel. Poor Nigel only got a really small bowl for his feast.

I couldn't fit everyone in to the picture, but we had mom and Jerry, Callie and Jon and family, Christine and Covey and family, me and Micah and Nigel, Catie and Carlie. Collin wasn't able to make it until the day after...
...The day after Thanksgiving was a celebration as well. This is Grandma Jeanne and Grandpa Vernile with our little family. Christine and Covey hosted a hang out day for my mom's side of the family that we hardly ever see. It was WONDERDFUL to see everyone and I think we're going to do it every year.

We're all grown up now. These are all of my siblings. Callie, Christine, myself, Collin, Catie and Carlie. I LOVE MY FAMILY!
Nigel loves Uncle Bubba.
He also fell in love with my cousin's daughter Lauren. They played catch with a football for minutes on end.
